At 10 p.m. on a Saturday, The Daily Press Cafe at Michigan and Monroe still has an hour left before it closes. A few blocks west at 23780 Michigan Ave., Homies Donuts is still frying until 11. Down the street is High Société, the steak and seafood restaurant that opened this summer with an evening ribbon-cutting. When you put the new West Downtown openings of 2026 side by side, you see that each one plans to stay busy after dark.
The coming openings point the same way. Boardwalk's website and the renderings for Emari Roast Cafe's flagship both lead with evening patios. The city's October calendar for this stretch runs into the night too.
Here's the strip, address by address, along with the posted hours that make the case.
Coffee until 10 p.m. at Michigan and Monroe
The Daily Press Cafe opened at 22001 Michigan Ave., Suite 150, and announced it on its own site on Sept. 23, 2026. The space used to be Kung Fu Tea, the bubble tea shop that had reopened under new management the year before. Owner Mohamad Alshormany told What Now Detroit in May that he was building a news-themed cafe, with a classic television inside and a newsroom feel. The menu covers coffee, lattes, refreshers, smoothies and sandwiches, and you can order ahead on the website or in the app and pick up at the counter.
The hours are what make it unusual for a cafe:
- Monday through Friday: 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
That adds up to 15 hours a day on weekdays, and a weekend close later than the weekday one. The shop was planned as a gathering spot from the beginning. Before it opened, its Instagram described it as "a space for community, connection, and everyday moments. A place to gather, unwind, and feel at home."
The cafe also lands among established neighbors. What Now Detroit placed it near Paradise Street Eats & Biryani, across from Mint 29 and Qahwah House, and not far from the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. If you're making plans after the museum or ending a dinner with coffee, this corner now has a cafe open past 9.
The dinner reservation at 22115 Michigan Ave.
The first big opening of the season came on Monday, June 29, when Kasey Chammout cut the ribbon on High Société alongside Mayor Abdullah H. Hammoud, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Helal Farhat and City Council President Mike Sareini. Fittingly, the grand opening was an evening event.
High Société serves premium steaks, fresh seafood and globally inspired dishes. The Arab American News described an interior with warm lighting and dining spaces set up for family celebrations, social gatherings and business meetings, plus large windows looking out on Michigan Avenue. Chammout is a Dearborn restaurateur, and the paper called High Société the newest milestone in "a career deeply rooted in Dearborn's restaurant industry."
High Société is the anchor for the evening on this stretch. The other new openings fill in around it, with somewhere to get coffee after dinner and somewhere to get dessert later.
Donuts until 11 p.m. at 23780 Michigan Ave.
Homies Donuts took longer to verify. When WCSX covered it on June 29, the Dearborn shop was the Canadian brand's first U.S. location, and the opening was still ahead. A few days later, Metro Times reported that no exact date had been set and estimated late July or early August. By Sept. 11, LittleGuide Detroit confirmed the shop was open.
LittleGuide lists the hours as daily, 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. or until sold out. The menu runs to more than 30 kinds of donuts. That includes Biscoff, Oreo Cheesecake, Tiramisu, Caramel Pecans, Pistachio Raspberry and the pizza donut that gets most of the attention. There's also a savory side. Homies' Beignewich sandwiches are built on donuts, with fillings like eggs and cheese, steak and egg, and fried chicken, and several use halal beef or chicken.
A few details are good to know before you go with kids. The shop has milkshakes in flavors like Reese's and Fruity Pebbles and free arcade games to play while you wait. Free parking is behind the store, next to a large donut photo op.
Boardwalk and Emari Roast are both planning around patios
The two openings still to come are the clearest examples of the evening pattern.
Boardwalk, 21400 Michigan Ave.
Boardwalk's site lists the opening as "Fall 2026" and gives no specific date. It will be one full-service restaurant with four kitchens on a single menu:
- Aegean & Mediterranean
- Pan-Asian
- Gourmet Deli
- Italian
The site leads with evening language throughout. It invites guests to "settle in with your people, find something you love, and make an evening of it." It describes a circular Rotunda Bar at the center of the room and "a patio that opens the evening to the outdoors." It also mentions a Doughroom where dough is made from scratch in full view. Longtime residents may recognize the address. The Detroit Free Press has identified 21400 Michigan Ave. as the Boardwalk Marketplace building, the former home of Andiamo Dearborn. The site is hiring for its opening team, so watch for a firm date there.
Emari Roast Cafe's West Dearborn flagship
The owners of Emari Roast Cafe, which opened in Troy at 987 Wilshire Drive, are planning a 12,500-square-foot cafe and restaurant in West Dearborn as their flagship. As of What Now Detroit's Aug. 4 report, they hadn't released an address or opening date. According to that report, the renderings show indoor and outdoor seating and a patio for evening dining.
That makes it a coffee brand planning for dinner service on the patio. With The Daily Press staying open until 10 or 11, two of the new cafe concepts on this stretch are designed to run late.
October evenings on the same strip
The city's fall calendar for West Downtown also runs late:
- Brews and Boos, Friday, Oct. 9, 6 to 11 p.m. The Dearborn Historical Museum's 21-and-over craft beer and Halloween night takes place at the Commandant's Quarters, 21950 Michigan Ave. That puts it on the same stretch as The Daily Press and High Société.
- Dearborn Historical Museum Fall Festival Day 2, Saturday, Oct. 10, noon to 4 p.m.
- Downtown Dearborn Trick-or-Treating, Saturday, Oct. 24, 1 to 3 p.m. Families can visit participating businesses in both the East and West downtown districts, and the city encourages registering ahead.
- Downtown Dearborn Fall Bazaar, Saturday, Oct. 24, 4 to 9 p.m. Look for Market on Maple, artisan vendors, a live DJ, interactive stations and family-friendly activities.
Oct. 24 makes for a full day downtown. Trick-or-treating ends at 3, the Bazaar starts at 4, and the Bazaar wraps up at 9. That leaves two hours before The Daily Press and Homies both close at 11.
Planning a Michigan Avenue evening this fall
Here's how the evening options on this stretch line up right now:
- Dinner: High Société, 22115 Michigan Ave.
- Coffee after dinner, until 10 p.m. weeknights or 11 p.m. weekends: The Daily Press Cafe, 22001 Michigan Ave., Suite 150
- Dessert or a late bite, until 11 p.m. daily or until sold out: Homies Donuts, 23780 Michigan Ave.
- Not open yet: Boardwalk at 21400 Michigan Ave., targeting fall 2026, and Emari Roast Cafe's flagship, which had no address or date announced as of the Aug. 4 report
Boardwalk's website is the best place to check for its opening date. For Emari Roast, What Now Detroit has said the company will share more details itself.
I follow these openings because they shape how a block feels at 9 p.m., and that matters when someone asks me what living within walking distance of Michigan Avenue is like. If you're weighing a home near West Downtown and want an honest take on how these blocks work day to day, I'm happy to talk it through. Sold Buy Eddie LLC is here when you're ready. Let's Connect.
